Blue Anchor Project Endorses Matt Dunlap for U.S. House in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District
LEWISTON, MAINE — The Blue Anchor Project is proud to help usher in a new era of democracy. The results of the November 4th elections prove that we’re on the right track and that voter engagement is working.
The results also underscored what we’ve been saying all along: voters are tired of performative politics and policies that ignore real people’s struggles. The failed “Blue Dog” approach that Representative Jared Golden cherished, has lost credibility because it doesn’t deliver for working families. Voters are demanding authenticity, action, and leadership that reflects their needs — and they’re no longer fooled by politics-as-usual.
After citizens in Maine’s 2nd District, and with some consistent pressure from the Blue Anchor Project, called out Representative Golden for votes that undermined core democratic values, including support for Trump’s immigration agenda and his budget cuts to healthcare security, Golden has now withdrawn from the race.
While we strongly disagreed with many of his decisions, the Blue Anchor Project recognizes Representative Golden’s years of service to Maine and thanks him for his contributions to public life. We wish him well in his future endeavors.
With this new opportunity for leadership, the Blue Anchor Project proudly endorses Matt Dunlap for the United States House of Representatives in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
State Auditor Dunlap represents the kind of leadership our communities have been calling for: honest, grounded, and ready to fight for working families across the state.
From the beginning, the Blue Anchor Project has challenged complacent leadership and demanded accountability. Through community forums and direct voter outreach, Mainers made it clear that they wanted more transparency and less political posturing. That collective pressure, led by voters rather than party insiders, helped open the door for new leadership.
A lifelong Mainer from Old Town, Dunlap has spent nearly three decades in public service, first as a state legislator, then as Maine’s Secretary of State (2005–2011 and 2013–2021), and currently as State Auditor. His record reflects steady leadership, fairness, and a deep respect for democratic institutions.
Like many of us at the Blue Anchor Project, Matt Dunlap is a proud University of Maine graduate, grounded in the same traditions and values that define Maine. That shared foundation fuels our work: we understand the people and communities we serve because we come from them. And while our roots are here, our mission extends far beyond Maine — to strengthen democracy, expand voter engagement, and empower communities across the Northeast and the nation.
“Matt Dunlap represents exactly the kind of leadership our democracy needs,” said Liam Kent, Co-Founder of the Blue Anchor Project. “He’s spent his life making government work for everyday people, protecting voter rights, strengthening transparency, and ensuring Maine’s voice is heard.”
“He fights for democracy and everything Americans really want: affordability, health security, retirement security, and good jobs,” added Gerry Dubé, Co-Founder of the Blue Anchor Project.
In a race defined by sharp contrasts, Matt Dunlap stands apart for his calm, principled leadership and steady integrity. His approach to public service is transparent, thoughtful, and rooted in community rather than spectacle. He represents the kind of leadership that restores faith in government and reminds Mainers that politics can still be decent, honest, and human.
This endorsement reflects the Blue Anchor Project’s commitment to giving power back to the people, demanding accountability from those in office, and building a democracy that works for everyone — not just the powerful.
